I just don't want to.

Here in Canada today is the start of a long weekend. To me long weekends signify, relaxation, bbq, spending time with family and friends. Long weekends do not signify calorie counting, long workouts at the gym and stressing over food choices.

Driving home tonight I sent a text to my husband. The wording was simple - I don't want to diet this weekend. His response - LOL. I asked what was so funny, he hasn't answered me yet.

I am in no means abandoning my weight loss efforts, but I have to be honest, when it comes to this weekend, I just don't feel like it.

I don't mean that I plan to gorge myself or eat everything in sight, but I want to make food choices based on what I feel like having, not how many calories I have left.

I have noticed a 30 day pattern with my diet behavior. I followed clean eating faithfully for about a month before I fell off the wagon, weight watchers about the same. I have now been counting calories with great success for about a month and I can tell that I am getting bored.

I'm not sure exactly what to do in order to get past this mental plateau. It does not help that this week has been crazy busy and I am really tired. Perhaps a weekend of relaxation (I am on call, but fingers crossed) will help put me in a better place to move forward.

Will I count calories this weekend? Honnestly, I don't know, but I will be conscious of what I eat, I will make it to the gym and I will not give up the journey.

  1. Girl!!! You don't have to count calories. You have a really good handle on serving sizes...stay as close to those as you can. If you want to have a little sumthin', GO AHEAD!

This shouldn't be a diet. No, really, this is your new life. There will be birthdays and weddings and celebrations and long weekends...it's all a part of it. Don't beet yourself up and DON'T YOU DARE miss a BBQ (just don't have one of everything)

I was speaking with my best friend last night, also using Lose It and down 17 lbs. She and I don't do the same thing in terms of working out. We don't eat the same and once a week she has a "free night". Seems to be working for her. I have never had a "free night" so to speak but she claims that she needs time every week where she is careful but not compulsive.

    I may try it.

  2. I get bored with diets too. I have been swapping diets about every 10 lbs that I loose. I figured it helps keep my body confused, which seems to help release the weight. Plus, it helps me get re-excited about a different plan. I started on Nutrisystem and lost 20 lbs. Then I went to Adkins and lost another 10 lbs. Now, I think I am going on weight watchers. I learn something with each diet too. With Nutrisysytem, I learn portion control. With Adkins, I learned carb control. I hope to learn balance in all food with weight watchers.

  3. Have you ever looked at your female cycle? I know my mom can do really well on her diet for 3 weeks. She gets in her protein and carbs, but come a certain point in her cycle and she starts craving all those simple carbs we all know aren't the best choices. (like bowls of pasta) Maybe it's a hormone imbalance that comes on with your cycle.

Also, I was reading Tom Venuto's e-book: Burn the Fat and Feed the Muscle, and he goes in depth with nutrition. One of the things he talks about is calorie cycling. Where you eat 3 days 20% below maintenance and 1 day at maintenance. So every 4th day you can have a higher calorie day and you have an extra 300-400 calories you can add in something fun. That way you don't get bored with the same old stuff. Might be something to think about.

    Good luck!

  4. Geez, girl, i feel your pain!! I have this calorie counter app thingy on my phone, and after about a month I want to throw my phone off the tallest building I can find because food and calories become my mortal enemies in life. It only takes a month before locked in combat with my "mortal enemy" is before i'm making deals with the devil. Sipping broth for dinner so i can have that damn chicken sandwich with swiss for lunch! I hear what these other girls are saying about portion control, but I only maintain weight that way. Let me know how you pull through!!

  5. I have always had the problem of eating healthy for awhile then one nice I go buy a chocolate bar, pack of candy and a diet coke.
What I do now is I have a piece of dark chocolate, just a square every night, after my dinner. and the odd time, 1-2 week I have a diet coke. It seems to be working for me for now, over a month. I think because I am having a little everynight or every other night, sometimes I don't feel like it, I won't go out one day and just stuff my face with crap :D haha. As for BBQ's,special occasions, for example I was just at my friends sisters birthday, ice cream cake, yum,I had the tiniest sliver she could cut.
my advice, don't completely cut yourself off but also dont over endulge.
Check out Michael Pollan's book "food rules" it helped me the most out of anything and its only 11$
    "everything in moderation, including moderation"

trust me, it takes awhile to figure out what works best for YOU!
